Concerto

You can tell a lot about people from their choice of loudspeaker.

There are those for whom appearances count more than acoustics. Others may be obsessed with change for its own sake, and therefore won over by gimmicks. Those whose enjoyment of recorded music is less important than other media are concerned with other factors than absolute audio fidelity. And some judge performance merely by the number and size of the drive units involved, irrespective of quality; they’re easy to please.

Hardest of all to satisfy is the true audiophile - the purist for whom musicality, balance and acoustic integrity are paramount. These are the individuals KEF Reference Series engineers had in mind when they designed the Concerto.

As soon as you see the elegant simplicity of the cabinets, with their immaculate finish (in black or hand-matched cherry veneers),you begin to appreciate the values that Concerto epitomises:craftsmanship, not mass production;timelessness, not fashion;discreet confidence, rather than cheap ostentation.

What you can’t see - but can certainly hear - is the way that complex internal bracing effectively rids the high density cabinets of any unwanted colourations which would otherwise mar the lucidity of the drive units.

Both Concerto models feature KEF’s gloriously natural-sounding 25mm (1ÿ) Ferrofluid-cooled silk dome tweeter, with its remarkable smoothness and uncanny ability to capture all the nuances of the human voice.

In the Concerto one,a rear-ported bass reflex design with a surprisingly compact footprint, this awesomely competent HF capability is complemented by a ‘long throw’130mm (5.25ÿ) bass/midrange driver selected for its exceptional (90dB) sensitivity and roll-off characteristics.

Thanks to KEF’s advanced computer-designed crossovers, response is unerringly fluent right across the frequency range, with generous bass extension matched only by the clarity of stereo imaging.

The 3-way Concerto two takes this proven combination of superbly engineered components a step further, adding a second 130mm (5.25ÿ) bass/midrange driver to create an even denser and richer sound picture. With 150W power handling, neutral balance and virtually flat response,it replicates the textures of the most complex tracks with the utmost fidelity.Whether your taste is for the instrumental, symphonic, choral or solo voice, classical or avant garde, you’ll find its resulting musicality immensely involving.

As you would expect of audiophile speakers of this calibre, both Concerto models are designed to accommodate bi-wiring/bi-amping to enhance their already impressive performance even further. Indeed, their gold plated bi-wire terminals testify to the meticulous attention to detail that typifies KEF’s approach.

In fact,Concerto in many ways represents the archetypal KEF loudspeaker, combining advanced design technologies with proven high order engineering to create superlative hi-fi monitors for serious enthusiasts.

No flashy ornamentation,no dubious gizmos,no proliferation of ill-matched components. These are speakers whose future classic status is guaranteed by one thing alone: the mesmerising beauty of their sound.
