Reference Model Two - Two
Standing slightly taller than Model One ~ Two to accommodate an additional bass unit, Model Two ~ Two features an identical Uni-Q® twin driver array: KEF's 25mm (1") ferrofluid – cooled soft dome tweeter seamlessly integrated with a 160mm (6.5") polypropylene cone mid-range unit. Response, as you would expect, is mellifluous across the upper frequency range - particularly vocals, which acquire startling clarity.
As with all KEF Reference Series ~ Two speakers, Uni-Q technology makes Model Two ~ Two exceptionally simple to place in the room. Unlike ordinary speakers, whose tiny ‘sweet spot' can involve literally hours struggling to find an acceptable position, their exceptional off-axis response means that they can be plugged in and played in minutes.
KEF's unique coupled cavity bass concept once again lifts bass performance to another plane. Mounted in their own 40-litre internal enclosure, the twin 160mm (6.5") bass drivers are joined back-to-back by a massive force cancelling rod - another KEF design 'first' - to neutralise any unwanted vibrations. As a result , bass extension is out of all proportion to the size of the elegantly slim cabinet - and the accuracy, simply superb. The complex high order cross overs (set at 2.5kHz and 160Hz) boast polypropylene capacitors to minimise signal loss for a purer, more richly detailed sound. And naturally, the furniture quality finish is commensurate with the calibre of the engineering inside; Model Two ~ Two is available in Black Ash, Cherry and Rosenut veneers.
Please don’t think that just because we design and build Reference Series~Two loudspeakers to such high standards that they're only suitable for professional applications like recording studios. Features like magnetic shielding and tonal accuracy make them ideal for home theatre, too. And though they're capable of realising the full potential of the most sophisticated of audio systems with consummate ease, they're quite at home with more affordable electronics.
