KEF 'Pod' Technology
KEF were the first with this radical new concept. Starting in the late 1970s, the pod design developed through the years to the exquisite, streamlined hypertweeter seen on the Reference 207 Model today.
Model 105: 1977 - 79 - Original thinking from KEF

The 105 was the very first KEF loudspeaker to incorporate the radically new MF/HF enclosure. Designed to separate the mid to high frequencies from the main bass enclosure, thus ensuring pure vocal response. Known today as Pod technology, this 1977 KEF Model 105 set the foundations for the future. |
Model 105/2: 1979 - 87 - Natural progression

In 1979 this already familiar design was updated to produce the Model 105/2 using the now world famous MF/HF enclosure. The Model 105/2 was so popular, production continued until 1987. |
Model 105/4: 1980 - 82 - The next step

In 1980 the Model 105/4 was introduced, incorporating the distinctive MF/HF enclosure. A more affordable version of the 105/2, using twin B200 bass drivers per cabinet instead of the single B300. |
Model 107: 1986 - 89 - KEF Flagship receives the Pod treatment

By 1987, and after overwhelming success of the Model 105/2 we wanted to introduce a loudspeaker that would head up our strong family of Reference products into the 90s. No expense spared - we opted for large real wood cabinets in a variety of attractive finishes, though continuing to use the MF/HF enclosure from which we had achieved such pure sound on past products. So was born the KEF Model 107. |
Model 107/2: 1990 - 96 - From strength to strength

Taking the Hi-Fi world by storm, the Model 107 was ready for phase two of its career. Still holding onto the pod concept though adding more control features like Bi-Wire and Bi-Amp capability, the now famous MF/HF enclosure could deliver more open and precise mid to high frequencies. The differences were astounding and the Model 107/2 continued in production up to 1996. |
1987 - 93 The Eureka Project
![]() |
From 1987-93 KEF was a partner in the EC-supported Eureka research project Archimedes, which aimed at gaining a greater understanding of the influence of rooms upon loudspeaker performance. This project directly influenced both the UNI-Q array development and the revival of the low diffraction pod concept, driven by the need for pure sources. |
Model 207: 2001 - Natural Evolution

So with 25 years experience in pod development, the natural choice for our new Reference series flagship model was to use a more futuristic design but with all the elements of the original. Coupling pod with our other famous technology UNI-Q, we have achieved the ultimate in audio reproduction. The Model 207 has many new and exciting features, though will be most famous for its sheer MF/HF brilliance thanks to combining pod and Uni-Q technologies. |
